Common questions, honest answers.

Everything you need to know about working with DevTech.

Getting Started

How do I start a project with DevTech?

Start by filling out our quote form or sending us an email. Tell us about your project — even if it's just a rough idea. We'll schedule a free consultation call to discuss scope, timeline, and budget.

Do I need a detailed specification before contacting you?

Not at all. Many clients come to us with just an idea. We'll help you define the scope and features during our discovery phase. That said, if you do have a spec, wireframes, or designs, bring them — it helps us give you a more accurate estimate faster.

Do you work with clients outside of Utah?

Yes. We're based in Salt Lake City but work with clients across the country. Most of our communication happens through video calls, email, and project management tools. The location doesn't affect the quality of work.

What industries do you work with?

We work with a wide range of industries — restaurants, contractors, salons, law offices, fitness studios, real estate, startups, and more. If your business needs a website, app, or online presence, we can help. Check out our web development and mobile development services for more details.

Pricing & Budget

How much does a website cost for a small business?

It depends on what you need. Here are our current starting points:

  • Quick Launch (1–3 pages): $1,500
  • Small Business Website (5 pages): $3,000
  • Local Business Pro (with SEO & Google Business): $5,000
  • E-Commerce Store: From $2,500

We provide detailed estimates before any work begins. See our packages page for the full breakdown.

How much does it cost to build a mobile app?

Our Mobile App MVP starts at $2,500 and scales based on features, complexity, and integrations. We build cross-platform apps for both iOS and Android using React Native, so you get two platforms from a single codebase. Get a quote for your specific project.

Do you charge hourly or fixed price?

Most projects are fixed-price based on an agreed scope. This gives you cost certainty. For ongoing work or projects where scope is still evolving, we offer hourly or retainer options.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, we typically require a 50% deposit before work begins, with the remaining balance due upon completion. For larger projects, we break payments into milestones so you're never paying for work that hasn't been delivered.

Is a website or an app the better investment for my business?

For most small businesses, a website is the right first step — it's how people find you on Google, learn about your services, and get in touch. An app makes sense if your customers need frequent, on-the-go access to your services — things like booking, ordering, tracking, or real-time communication. Not sure? Talk to us — we'll give you honest advice.

Process & Timeline

How long does it take to build a website?

Timelines vary based on complexity:

  • Quick Launch: As fast as 3 days
  • Small Business Website: 1–4 weeks
  • E-Commerce Store: 2–6 weeks
  • Mobile App MVP: 1–3 months

We'll give you a realistic timeline before starting. We'd rather be honest upfront than miss a deadline later.

How involved do I need to be during the project?

As involved as you want. At minimum, we need your input during discovery and feedback at key milestones. Some clients prefer weekly check-ins, others just want to see progress when it's ready. We adapt to your preference.

What happens after the project launches?

That's up to you. We can hand off the project completely, or we can provide ongoing support with our Managed Hosting ($49/month) or Growth & Support ($250/month) plans. Many of our clients opt for continued maintenance — updates, bug fixes, and new features as their business grows.

Do you help with content — images, copy, branding?

Yes. Our Design & Marketing service covers branding, copywriting assistance, and visual design. If you have your own content ready, great — we'll work with it. If not, we can help you create it or point you in the right direction.

E-Commerce

Can you build an online store for my business?

Yes. We build e-commerce stores on Shopify or custom platforms, starting at $2,500. We handle product catalog setup, payment processing, checkout flow, inventory management, and SEO for product pages. Pricing scales based on your catalog size and the integrations you need (shipping, accounting, email marketing, etc).

Should I use Shopify or a custom store?

Shopify is great if you want a proven, low-maintenance platform with built-in inventory, payments, and shipping. A custom store gives you more control and flexibility, especially if your product or workflow is unique. We'll recommend the best option based on your catalog size, budget, and business goals.

Can you migrate my existing store?

Yes. Whether you're moving from WooCommerce, Squarespace, Etsy, or another platform, we can migrate your products, customers, and order history to a new store. We'll make sure nothing gets lost in the transition.

Hosting & Support

What is managed hosting?

Managed hosting means we handle the technical side of keeping your website online — hosting on a global CDN, SSL certificates, domain and DNS management, automatic site versioning, uptime monitoring, and minor content updates. You get a direct line to your developer instead of dealing with a hosting company's support team. It's $49/month. See the full details.

Do I need managed hosting?

If you want someone to handle the technical side — DNS, SSL, updates, and monitoring — so you can focus on running your business, yes. If you're comfortable managing your own hosting (or have an IT team), we can hand everything off to you after launch. Either way, we'll make sure you're set up for success.

What's included in Growth & Support?

Growth & Support ($250/month) includes everything in Managed Hosting plus monthly website updates and content changes, performance and SEO reporting, priority email and phone support, and up to 4 hours of development time per month. It's designed for businesses that want their site to evolve as they grow.

Can I cancel my hosting or support plan?

Yes, anytime. There are no long-term contracts. If you cancel, we'll help you transition to self-hosting or another provider so your site stays online. We want to earn your business every month, not lock you in.

Technology

What technologies do you use?

We pick the right tool for the job. For mobile apps, we primarily use React Native with Expo — it lets us ship to iOS and Android from a single codebase. On the web, we work with React, Next.js, TypeScript, and plain HTML/CSS depending on what the project needs. For AI integrations, we work with Gemini, Claude, OpenAI, and custom automation workflows. We also maintain WordPress sites and build on Shopify when e-commerce is the focus. The goal is always the simplest, most maintainable solution that does what you need.

Can you work with my existing codebase?

Yes. We regularly pick up existing projects for updates, bug fixes, new features, or migrations. We'll review your current code and give you an honest assessment of what we're working with.

Do I own the code you write?

Yes, 100%. Once the project is completed and paid for, you own all the code, designs, and assets. We'll provide full access to repositories and any accounts created for your project.

Will my website work on mobile devices?

Absolutely. Every website we build is mobile-responsive — it looks and works great on phones, tablets, and desktops. With over 60% of web traffic coming from mobile, this isn't optional. We test on real devices before launch.

Do you set up SEO for my website?

Yes. Every site includes foundational SEO — proper titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps, image optimization, and fast page speeds. Our Local Business Pro package goes further with local SEO strategy, keyword targeting, and Google Business Profile setup. Good SEO is how your customers find you on Google.

Experience & Trust

What experience does DevTech have?

Our founder has professional experience building apps and platforms for brands like Famous Footwear, Thrivent Financial, and Ascension One. We also built Ride Tracker, a GPS tracking app available on both iOS and Android. We bring enterprise-level development skills to small business projects — at small business prices.

How is DevTech different from hiring a big agency?

With DevTech, you work directly with the developer — not an account manager, not a sales team. That means faster communication, lower overhead costs, and a partner who actually understands the technical work being done on your project. We keep things simple, transparent, and focused on results. Learn more about us.

Do you have a referral program?

Yes! If you refer someone who becomes a client, you'll earn 5% of the project value in cash (up to $1,000) — or double that as DevTech credit (up to $2,000). There's no limit to how many people you can refer. Learn more about our referral program.
